In March and April of 2020, 43 states issued stay-at-home orders to residents to mitigate the spread of COVID. If you were in one of these states, you had time to pinpoint the aspects of your home you don’t like. While you’re no longer required to stay in, it’s not too late to make some changes to your home and address the downfalls.
Change the Color of a Room’s Decor
When you were at home, you spent time looking at the same walls and decor repeatedly. Why not pick a room and give it a makeover? Change the color of the walls, decorative pillows, rugs, and other accessories to revive it. If you’re thinking of adding a unique piece, natural geodes are incredibly complex and beautiful to look at. Consider a new style. If the room had a country feel, think about going modern. Keep in mind that the main color you choose can affect your mood. For instance, purple is associated with a sense of power.
Make Home Improvements With Property Value in Mind
You had time to find all the imperfections of your house while you were at home. Instead of making all these changes, choose ones that increase property value, especially if you plan to sell in the future. Upgrading your kitchen or bathroom, for example, can positively affect your resale value.
Keep in mind the selling time frame. If it’s soon, research what buyers are looking for in a home as you select updates. Remember to keep the receipts for all changes you’ve made so you have proof of how much you’ve put into the house. Additionally, take before and after photos.
Start Using Your Fireplace
Lighting a fire gives your home warmth and makes you feel cozy inside. It also has the potential to lower your blood pressure. Begin using your fireplace now if you couldn’t use your fireplace since the pandemic began. Before you do, have your chimney swept and inspected. During this process, a professional removes any soot or other blockages. The chimney specialist checks for structural issues and any other problems that affect function.
Reduce Clutter
Clutter can cause stress levels to rise, and this may have happened to you throughout the stay-at-home orders. Consider decluttering by digitizing documents and using a PDF merging tool to store them all in one convenient place. Fortunately, once you have all the documents in one file, you can change the page order so you can easily find the one you need.
You can also look at addressing the physical clutter that has accumulated in your home. If dealing with fills you with a sense of overwhelming dread, look into hiring a professional organizing service to help you address it.
Create a Hobby Area
The pandemic caused people to look outside of going shopping and to the movies, the gym, or restaurants and take up old and new hobbies. To accommodate your hobby, designate a space for it. For instance, create a reading nook with a cozy chair and plenty of lighting. You could also have your home office, with its own comfortable chair, double as a crafting room or convert part of your basement into an exercise room.
Breathe Life Back Into Your Home During the Pandemic
Take an opportunity during the pandemic to make practical and aesthetic changes to your home. These changes will benefit you not only by making your home more enjoyable, but also by reflecting more of yourself.
